...like asking Cancer to investigate the tobacco companies

Network administrators and other computer professionals know the pulse of the companies that they work for. Not only do we see all the ones and zeros, we also see the rest of the numbers in the databases. Those that were too busy to notice, don't have a job right now. Those that paid attention saw the CEO's bullying the accounting department and stuffing their pockets.  (Or packing their parachutes.) If you working in the computer department you have to pay attention to what's going on around you or you'll find yourself without a job. Or worse, sitting on a help desk. It's a strange job market out there right now.

I don't know about you, but lately a lot of big boy computer companies have been calling and filling my inbox with junk mail, almost begging me to look at their products. Why, because companies are struggling not to be an Enron, or Worldcom, or at least be found out. And you can't help but to wonder what's going on with companies like Microsoft; I receive a phone call a week, two or three piece of U.S. mail and a notice in my hotmail account soliciting a purchase--They are not the only ones. Why would a company that has such strong stock prices reduce themselves to commercial begging? Who is going to be the next WorldCom?

How can some of these software companies show such high quarterly earning when no one is buying product right now. During the last presidential campaign, why was George Bush talking about investing Social Security money in the stock market, because they knew what was coming, but the war on terrorist depleted those funds and there is nothing left for all the big campaign contributors. 

Greed and Wall Street seduced a great many a strong company with good earning and good long term potential and turned them away from what they did best and forced them to become day traders. It's obvious by the quality of software that's being released on the market which companies are a slave to their stockholders. Soon these companies will have no choice but to get back to what made them a company in the first place.  The stock market is nothing more that a hungry parasite where only a few benefit. I can not believe that our economy sits on top
