Commentary about the SCI-FI
Channel (revised)
![]()
Like
with many computer nerds, I too enjoy watching science fiction, especially space
related Sci-Fi. When the Sci-Fi channel first came out I was as excited as any
geek and still be considered of legal mind. With hit movies such as Star Wars, Star Trek as well as other
sci-fi movies, someone finally realized that there is a market for sci-fi. My
wife, also a computer geek went out and purchased a Direct TV Satellite system
just for the Sci-Fi channel because our cable company didn’t carry it. Right
away we picked up on 3 shows that we became fond of, and like with any Sci-Fi
show that you like it is almost immediately canceled.
I believe the blame for the constant cancellation of my favorite shows falls on
the Nielsen family of views. My wife and I have a theory
about the Nielsen family and the type of people that would even want to be a Nielsen
viewer in the first place. We believe that these people (Nielsen people) are more inclined to watch shows such as,
Mattlock, Murder She
Wrote and infomercials on how to shave a hairy baby so no one mistakes it for a chimpanzee.
Of course if you've never been to New Jersey this statement will leave you at a
loss. Those that would not agree to belong to the Nielsen family, are everyone
else on the planet. Therefore, if Farscape ratings are judged based on the 4 or
5000 retired seniors citizens that live in a manufactured home community 15
miles east of Lakeland Florida, than these same people also need to financially
support the Sci-fi channel because we all know that's what these people do best.
I mean to say, with all due respect to senior citizens, if their bottoms where
as tight as their purse strings, when they broke wind they'd make sounds that
only dogs could hear.
My family and I were very upset to hear about the cancellation of Farscape. We even taped two of the episodes while we were in Australia, (Which is actually where it is filmed.) so when we came home we wouldn’t miss them. Farscape was the last bastion of any reason to ever watch the Sci-fi channel because as many of you will attest, the station has been a big disappointment. And now with the announcement that Farscape has been canceled before they could film their final session, I am enraged. (And everyone that knows me will contest, when I'm angry I make odd comparisons between the bowel movements of the elderly and the range of frequencies that dogs can hear in.) So, not only will I never watch the Sci-fi channel again, but also if Direct TV doesn’t allow me the option to remove it from my plan, I will cancel Direct TV. Computer geeks have suffered the indignity of loosing Sci-Fi shows for decades and still these people don't get it. Once the Sci-fi channel shows the final episodes of Farscape I will never watch that channel again. Not even if Sci-Fi channel shows secret pictures of their executives recreating with the empty costumes from the Farscape set will I return.
I am not trying to rally support for a boycott of the Sci-fi channel, (well, not yet. I mean if I did, it might look a little bit like this.) what I would rather do is rally support for Farscape to show the morons at the Sci-Fi channel who their daddy is. That would be D'Argo.
If you would like to support Farscape, you may go to
this sites for instructions on how to do so http://www.karlsweb.com

If you'd rather be like me and make a lot of rude comments pertaining to the
sexual interest of program directors and threats to canceling your cable
subscription, you may contact me directly. I don't exactly know what I would do
with your comments, but you may send them to me if it makes you feel better. If
you are from New Jersey however, and are the proud parents of a very hairy baby,
I apologize for any upsetting comments that I directed at your state or you're
little monkey.
