Book Review by Graham Parks
Profiles
of the Future
Arthur C Clarke
If
you fancy a little enjoyable reading then I recommend this book to anyone.
Clarke is always worth reading but this is different. This is not a novel, but
Clarke’s ideas and predictions on what the future holds. What makes this
really interesting is that the material is over forty years old, so it is very
interesting to see where Clarke was right and wrong in his predictions of the
near future.
He predicts we would have a Mars colony by now. We could do this, but
the political will to do so does not exist. Rather hard to predict.
Other predictions are spot on, such as being able to talk and see
pictures of people on the other side of the world in real time, although I
expect Clarke had in mind an enhanced telephone rather than a camera attached to
a net connected PC.
This book is out of print, but Amazon do have used copies available.

Don’t ask, I do not want to sell my copy.
